Some compressors are energy efficient, while some make an awful lot of noise. Compressor power and performance are also important questions to be considered. For example, a compressor to be used in a machine workshop has to be much more powerful than a one that is to be used in a dental surgeon’s office. Hence, before actually buying this product, the amount of power available at the place where the compressor is to be installed, must be calculated.
Most direct-drive electric compressors can run on a standard 110-volt circuit. It is also recommended that no generator should be used to power the compressor if no power is available at the jobsite. Serious damage can be done to the compressor motor when sudden fluctuations in power from a generator occur. This is considered improper usage and will nullify any warranty on the compressor. It is easy for the manufacturer to find damage that occurred because the compressor has been run on a generator.
